Avant Garden invites you on a hands-on, immersive journey into the world of plants and the cycles of nature. Guided by the seasons, you'll build practical skills in plant identification, herbal remedy-making, and sensory awareness, while also exploring the deeper connection between the natural world and your inner landscape.

Throughout the year, you'll learn to work with local plants, attune to the rhythms of the land, and draw on ancestral wisdom to support health and wellbeing. This is a journey of observation and experience—cultivating a relationship with nature that is rooted in presence, care, and curiosity. As the seasons turn, so too will your understanding of the rich interplay between earth, body, and spirit.

YEAR LONG JOURNEY

This year-long course is an invitation to deepen your connection with the natural world through the lens of herbalism, creativity, and the rhythms of the Earth. Held over four immersive weekends, four evening gatherings and monthly check-ins, we will journey together through the cycles of the seasons, guided by nature as our greatest teacher.

Each weekend includes:

  • Day 1: A grounding in herbal theory—covering the medicinal uses of plants, body systems, food as medicine, medical astrology and practical techniques for healing.

  • Day 2: A day in nature, working hands-on and intimately with plants to develop your sensory awareness and herbal skills.

Between the weekends, we will meet for four seasonal sensory evening sessions, offering space to reflect, share your experiences, discuss questions, and explore ritual practices aligned with the time of year. Monthly check-in online for support and questions.

What We Will Experence Together

Throughout the year, you will create your own Materia Medica—a personal and creative herbal reference book filled with plant monographs, pressed plants, recipes, drawings, musings and notes that reflect your growing personal relationship with the plant world.

This course combines botany, herbal medicine, medical astrology, ritual, and creative expression, helping you cultivate your unique “plant path.”, learning to engage all your senses—seeing, smelling, tasting, touching, listening and feeling—as you explore the beauty and medicine of the natural world.

Seasonal Sensory Herbalism is both a craft and an art. It's a space for learning, experimentation, and deep connection. When we work with plants in this way, something beautiful and transformative arises from within.
